What is VPN | Things you should know

What can I do to protect my privacy and unlock that website which is not available in my country?

Are you one of those who is thinking like protection and safeguard to your network.

Then this article is for you. Today I'm sharing something related to VPN which will help you protect your network and much more.

What is a VPN?

VPN is Virtual private network. It is a private network that supports any user to access any country site including does not even share user data. That means your safe and protected.

This produces a fictional IP address for you that you can select any country. This means that if you are using that internet including you need to know which country you are using the internet then you can choose an unknown country.

You can see that country. You can get a fictitious IP address and no one can even know it.

In pretty simple words, a VPN connects your Personal computer, smartphone or tablet to any other computer anywhere on the internet.

Plus allows you to browse the Internet using that computer's internet connection. Suppose if that server is in another country, it seems that you are coming from that country, including you can possibly transfer those things that you can not regularly do.

So the right work of VPN is to maintain your privacy and keep you protected.

Well, VPN is managed mostly in websites of large companies, government websites, education institute websites, etc.

So that the data on these websites can be safe including hackers can not hack easily.

With the help of a VPN, you can further access the site that is not available in your country. Because VPN offers you seem to be from another country from your settings.

Just say that VPN is used to secure and encrypt its network.

So you can save yourself confidential using a great VPN, as well as keep the data of your mobile including computer safe in the online world.

How Does VPN Work?

How Does VPN Work?

So as I said you all that with VPN you can additionally access the site which is not accessible in your country, now it is essential to understand how it works including how trustworthy it is for you.

When you connect your mobile via VPN, VPN serves as a local network here, which gives us a fictitious country including IP address.

When you connect your computer or smartphone or tablet to VPN, the computer works as if it is on the equal local network.

Since your computer works like it is on the local network, it enables you to reach local network resources securely on the different side of the world.

So when we connect first time to the VPN, we have a selection that we choose one country. When we choose this country, then our network becomes a virtual connection in which VPN plays an essential role.

So when we set an address in the site (which is not accessible in our country), then the site feels that this user is from a different country including we get access to that site.

Let's see one example which is favorite all time...

There was a time when Netflix was not available in India even then people view Netflix in India, with the help of VPN, by setting the US or UK to their location.

So in this way you can also take help of it using VPN.

If you need to use a VPN in your computer, you can download Opera browser on your computer for free VPN.

Thanks for Opera which they provided free VPN service for their user.

You can download opera browser by visiting their site.

After downloading, you have to go to Privacy and Security tab by going to Settings in its menu plus then tick the VPN option on it.

In this way, you will be easily connected to the VPN.

Or you can download chrome or firefox browser and add extensions to your browser by going their store.

In addition to this, there are many free including paid VPN you can use.

Now Where can you use VPN?

So you can use it while traveling. A secure network by VPN.

When you are traveling including others use the internet including wifi. VPN can provide you with a secure network that your location will be safe.

While Hiding your IP address. Connecting to a virtual private network regularly hides your real IP address. And protect you all the time.

Change your IP address. Using a VPN almost absolutely gives a different IP address to your smartphone, computer or any device you are using.

Why I Need a VPN?

There are some reasons you should know before using a VPN and why you need it...

A) Privacy

When you're connected through VPN web sites cannot see that your real IP address only the IP of the VPN server including.

Because there are many people using the server. You're effectively anonymous so let me tell you in deep.

Look we can pick any of the server locations from VPN and whatever one we choose is the IP every website will see us as.

And if you want to switch IPs you can just pick a new server and you can instantly have a new IP address even from another country.

It doesn't matter and you can see that VPN keeps showing a different IP address every time.

So it positively works and the way it works is any connections you need to make.

So going back to the privacy aspect this will also mean that search engines and other web sites won't be able to track your behavior.

And if you're on a school or work network they can't see on you and see what you're doing and another important thing.

B) Open Public Wifi Hotspot

If you weren't aware open Wi-Fi hotspots meaning ones that don't have a password to connect.

Do not encrypt the data being transmitted among your device and that hotspot.

So unless websites you're visiting are using HTTPS you are literally broadcasting everything.

You're doing for anyone to listen in on like I said before when you connect through a VPN everything is encrypted before it even leaves the computer.

So it doesn't matter if you're on an open Wi-Fi hotspot because the connection is secure.

Now I'm not even necessarily talking about your computer here though because you might use an open Wi-Fi hotspot on your phone as well.

Also yes it is likely to use a VPN on your phone. So VPN does indeed have an app that you can use on your iOS or Android phone along with the Windows and Mac OS.

And you'll see it's a pretty similar process. You just pick a server to connect to it and your data is secure whether you're on Wi-Fi or cellular.

And you'll know it's working because on iOS it will show a VPN icon at the top including on Android.

You'll see a small key icon both meaning that it's connected to a VPN.

So I'm sure that there are some of you out there whom it's worth it just to use on your phone even if you don't carry around a laptop everywhere.

C) Bypass Web Filters

I'm not encouraging you to use this to waste time when you should be doing work. But there definitely are times when you have a legitimate reason to look something up on the internet and the website is blocked for some reason.

And I'll share with you a real-life example right now where I went into my router settings and put a block on youtube.com.

So if I try to go to it there's no connection as you'd expect and you've probably seen places that will show you a screen letting you know it was blocked.

As well there are different types of ways you can do this now if we disconnect to another VPN server doesn't take long.

You'll instantly have access to YouTube again. The block is gone and this doesn't have to just be for a school or work filter.

A VPN can also help you bypass things like countrywide internet such as the in that case you might need a VPN to access certain websites at all.

No matter where you are so this can come in real handy speaking of filters through a neat thing.

VPN is a feature called cyber sec which will help filter out malicious sites you might accidentally come across and it is optional of course. But I think it's worth it to keep it on to play it safe

D) Bypass Location-Based Media

Restrictions in most cases so for example how many times have you gone to watch a YouTube video and it says not available in your country.

And the same goes for Netflix which has certain movies and shows that are only available in certain countries.

Now I don't believe Netflix including YouTube would be very happy. If I were to show you me actually bypassing the restrictions in this article.

But it is pretty easy as you can imagine you just need to choose a VPN server in a country where the website will allow you to view that content.

As you can go to in any VPN program you can either click on a country and it will automatically select a server for you from the map.

Or you can go to a list of countries and pick an individual server and you can see there are a ton's

There's literally over a thousand to choose from when you're connected to that country server you'll have an IP address from that country. And it will look like that's where you are very convenient.

E) Torrenting From Service Provider

Not all of them do this but there are plenty of ISPs that will limit your connection speed based on what program or service you're using at the time.

A simple example is peer-to-peer downloading such torrenting files. And I'd be willing to bet if you did a search for your ISP name and then throttling there a good chance a lot will come up with a VPN and all your data is encrypted in the same encrypted tunnel.

So your ISP will nevermore understand for sure what you're doing at any time. So they can't throttle anything.

Keep in mind though not all VPN services will allow peer-to-peer services like a torrent but as you guessed it some VPN  that does allow it and they actually have some specialty services to connect to for peer-to-peer.

For example, there are anti-DDoS servers which are resistant to denial of service attacks and are good.

If you really want an uninterrupted connection then there are the double VPN servers which I find pretty interesting it actually encrypts your connection twice through multiple server nodes.

So I don't think you can get much more secure than that but there is another pretty unique server called The Onion over VPN which can access.

If you're not familiar with onion that's a bit beyond the scope of this article. But it is a pretty safe way of connecting to the Internet.

But usually requires a good amount of time to set up correctly and this makes it really easy.

Hence there are a ton of uses for a VPN that you might not have thought of before.

If you've never used a VPN before but there are features for advanced users as well for example if you want to connect using the Open VPN protocol.

Or others you can do that you can pay with Bitcoin and there's an automatic kill switch option which is cool which will kill the connection if the VPN connection drops.

So you won't accidentally expose your real IP.

I hope you loved this article and share this to everyone who wants to know more about VPN.

Stay Protected And Stay Secure.
